First Full Day on Shamian Island

Joy went back to have her TB test read today. We prepared her that she would have an x-ray because her tests looked positive to us. We learned from one of the parents who is a pediatrician here that children in China are given a TB vaccination to keep away TB. The problem is that it makes them always test positive for TB. She was concerned for the X-Ray. WE finally learned that the reason she is reticent to take medicine is because many cases of deafness and blindness that she saw in the orphanage was due to medicine children had taken. GOOD NEWS, she didn’t have to have an X-ray in the end. She really celebrated!

Mommy and daughter did a little shopping while Max corrected university papers in the hotel room. She loves ice cream, so we enjoyed a cone on the island.

This afternoon, Yongguang’s sister visited us again and brought us delicious local Cantonese specialties.

Relationship update: tonight while mom worked on the blog, Daddy took Joy on a date to the beautiful restaurant on the island in the famous White Swan hotel. They sat at a window overlooking the Pearl River admiring the beautiful lights of the city. Max told her that he wanted her to remember the beauty of her country. (We’re discovering that she understands more English then we knew before). He also did a little etiquette training as she gathered up all of the silverware and did a little utensil banging on the table. There is more and more closeness happening between these two: Max has been less eager, and she gives him little massages and prepares tea for him unsolicited. She is learning to trust and enjoy us more and more. We are having fun together 
